Devotional Poem: He is all I Need

This week we launch our twelfth devotional poem. The next five weeks of blog posts will draw from themes in this poem.

This, that, these!
I need them all,
I need them please!

˜
When these jewels are finally mine,
This life, oh yes, will be divine!

˜
My needs and wants . . . infinite in number.
Ever expanding is Appetite’s hunger;
It never lets up, nor does it slumber.

˜
So on I am driven with this hope in my heart,
When “enough” is obtained, satisfaction will follow.
But why this faint haunting my life is too hollow?

˜
This was the hope I had been told;
This was the promise I had been sold.
Though in time I’d soon find
Far greater treasures yet to be mined.

˜
One day, in the midst of this race,
Truth, precious truth, arrested my pace.
There I fell upon the ground,
Shocked how long such lies kept me bound.

˜
With tears in my eyes
I cried to the sky,
“Vanity, vanity,
Such hopeless humanity!”

˜
My world became silent,
All was still . . .
All was quiet.

˜
Then it happened, He took me by surprise.
Somehow it appeared, God’s mercy unveiled.
The lovely warm blanket of His presence descended,
Transforming my soul, reshaping my mind!

˜
How is it possible?
How can this be?

˜
Contentment now rests where strife used to stand,
Anxiety recedes as peace rushes in,
Faith now emerges where fear used to rule.
And despair makes way for joy overflowing!

˜
Empty promises lose their shine
When peace and joy are already mine.
So deep in my heart erupts this refrain;
Such amazing grace, I cannot contain.

˜
He is all I need,
He is ever my need!
My need is in Him,
In Him I have all.
For seven long years the locusts have eaten,
For seven long years the heavens were shut.
But now in His presence,
There is nothing I lack!

˜
Yet, these “needs” still continue
As a prod in my side,
Helping me learn to yield, be still, and abide.
Here faith is discovered
As new eyes are uncovered.

˜
Fear’s facade now flickers, fades, and soon flies away.
No more is seen Need’s phantom
Illusion of famished farmland.
Instead is revealed His bountiful fields –
His Awesome Provision . . . His Almighty Hand.

˜
I must simply remember and never forget,
In His presence I have all that I need,
Yes, more than enough.
There is nothing I lack.

˜
Oh, He is all that I need,
He is ever my need!
My need is in Him,
In Him I have all.
For seven long years the locusts have eaten,
For seven long years the heavens were shut.
But now in His presence,
Praise God,
There is nothing I lack!

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.
